Industry Spotlight – Sarah Toxward

This month, we are delighted to shine our Industry Spotlight on Sarah Toxward, a superyacht agent whose expertise and dedication have made her a standout in the world of superyacht services.

We caught up with Sarah to ask her about her path to becoming one of Australia’s most trusted Yacht Agent, the future of her business Carter marine, and what she sees on the horizon for the Australian Superyacht industry.

So Sarah, what brought you to a profession in the marine and yachting industry?

I started as a dive instructor on the Great Barrier Reef, which led naturally to working as a dive guide/first mate on international superyachts. That career took me worldwide from Alaska to the Maldives. After seven years at sea, I moved ashore to work in marinas and shipyards and training the new wave of yacht crew before stepping into running Carter Marine.

What does a Yacht Agent do?

In short, we make the hard parts invisible. We handle customs, immigration, biosecurity, bunkering, visas, crew logistics, and more so vessels can focus on their guests. At Carter Marine, we pride ourselves on always saying “yes” and then working behind the scenes to make it happen.

You’re the new owner of Carter Marine – what is Carter Marine known for and what new services are you bringing to the business?

Carter Marine has always been known for hands-on, personal service. We’ve expanded beyond Cairns to the Whitsundays Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Darwin and WA , we can essentially assist anywhere in Australia with our trusted partners.

We’re also modernising everyday operations with digital tools including AI and building relationships with local businesses to ensure entire communities’ benefit from the superyacht industry.

You’re a trusted name in the industry – what do you think has helped you develop such a strong reputation?

Consistency, communication, and genuine care. Having worked onboard yachts myself, I understand the urgency of our clients and language of the industry. I’ve also built strong relationships with partners across Australia and the Pacific. My role is to facilitate, but behind me is a team of busy efficient people who help make the impossible possible.

Where do you see the future of the Australian Superyacht industry heading?

I see itineraries expanding beyond the Great Barrier Reef towards Thursday Island, the Kimberley’s, Tasmania, and more indigenous cultural experiences. The Brisbane 2032 Olympics will be a major opportunity, and stronger ties with Pacific neighbours will only help. With larger vessels arriving, we must keep investing in infrastructure and services.

What’s your favourite Superyacht destination in our region?

As an avid diver, I’d say the northern Great Barrier Reef during minke whale season, is epic. For cruising, the Whitsundays are unbeatable, with pristine anchorages and iconic islands like Hamilton and Hayman. Together, they’re the jewel in Australia’s superyacht crown.

Why do you like working with The Yard Brisbane?

For me as a superyacht agent, having a trusted partner like The Yard Brisbane makes all the difference, we share the same philosophy of putting the client first and finding solutions, no matter how challenging the request. Their team is flexible, responsive, and easy to collaborate with, which allows me to confidently recommend them to captains and crew.

Ultimately, working with The Yard Brisbane ensures visiting vessels not only receive exceptional care but also leave with the best possible impression of Australia as a superyacht destination
